Hey Mike, usually for new electrical gadgets, I will do a 7-8 hours first charge. I don’t think it’s an issue to turn on the iphone to check the status, but you may want to do that after a few hours of charging.

Ok, but when you get it ‘new’, they tell you to charge it up WITHOUT turning it on. So, when it’s NOT on, how do you know? My screen is blank with no icons of any kind.
